Life as a Progress consultant by
Floris Janse de Jonge
My Journey as a Consultant at Progress – Experts in Life Sciences: A Blend of Expertise and Collaboration
A foundation built on experience
Working for 15 years at the same employer in various roles within the pharmaceutical industry has shaped me into who I am today. Working as a consultant at Progress has given me a boost in developing both hard and soft skills. Since 2022, I have been helping various clients with their questions, and I feel my added value in the dynamic bioscience industry.
Connecting with Laboratory Teams and Collaborating with Colleagues
I can work purposefully with people in the laboratory. My experience as a line manager and project manager in different Quality Control laboratory departments is valuable for supporting companies in mapping out processes and improving, standardizing, and documenting them in procedures, in collaboration with the laboratory staff. It is enjoyable to connect with people on the shop floor, offering hands-on help or rolling up my sleeves to contribute and relieve the workload.
It is always good to see my Progress colleagues regularly, in addition to the client colleagues. We share knowledge through presentations and workshops during team meetings, and we share the fun with our families during summer and winter events. It is also pleasant to work with multiple Progress colleagues at a client, as we can make larger issues more manageable. Collaboration with my Progress colleagues provides opportunities to exchange experiences. A problem may have already occurred, and you don’t have to come up with a solution on your own. By brainstorming with Progress colleagues, you can borrow their expertise to come up with a client-oriented proposal.
Maintaining Perspective as an External Consultant
As an external consultant, it’s important to maintain a broad perspective and avoid getting bogged down in daily tasks. Managing progress and focusing on goals and achievements is key to keeping everybody satisfied.
Achieving Work-Life Balance at Progress
Work-life balance is well-practiced as a consultant at Progress. As a consultant, there is a chance you may be helping a client far from home. Physical presence may be necessary to assist the client, with the possibility of overnight stays. This is balanced at another time with working from home. This flexibility has three advantages: for the client to achieve project results, for the consultant to use time and energy efficiently, and for the environment by avoiding excessive long travel times by car.
