Life as a Progress consultant by
Jorindel Schlotter

After working for the same company for 18 years, but shifting positions on average every 3 years, I decided to switch to consultancy. I already enjoyed changing environments and sharing my knowledge and expertise to support people and companies in achieving their goals. Because I like to feel part of a team, I thought that working at a consultancy firm would suit me better than working alone as a self-employed person.

After speaking to several consultants throughout my career, the ones working for Progress stood out. According to them, Progress is not a standard consultancy firm looking for a maximum of billable hours, but really tries to find a good match for you in terms of the client and your position.

These promises have been definitely confirmed after 7.5 years of working for Progress. They always support me in finding a good balance between work and private life. I have had very challenging projects that allowed me to jump into roles that I had no real experience with. I feel confident about this because I have a backup in case I have any doubts about anything: the entire team of Progress consultants with all their experience is very easy to reach for questions and support.

I still feel part of the companies where I am hired, which is important to me: this is my daily point of contact. My assignments generally last about 2 years and so far, I have always felt part of the team from the start. Speaking about ‘us’ instead of ‘you’ helps to feel accepted.

In addition to the company I work for, I also feel part of Progress. We see each other almost every 6 weeks during our Team Meetings (except during the summer holidays), which I help organize. We try to keep a nice balance between presentations, interactions and of course time for a chat. I need that chat time to stay connected. I really enjoy seeing everyone there, including during the excellent annual summer and Christmas events.

Wanting to be more deeply involved with Progress, I ran for the role of Employee Representative – and was elected! This role gives me the opportunity to work closely with management to further improve the company. When I look at how our meetings are going, I see the real Progress: easy and open communication, with management very willing to improve and collaborate.

This is definitely a company I enjoy working for!
