Life as a Progress consultant by Mischa van Hout

After 20 years at the same company, yet in many different roles, I had the idea it was time for a bigger change. Loving the dynamics of change, the challenges of new expertise, and meeting new people brought me to the idea of becoming a consultant.
After some very interesting conversations at Progress – Experts in Life Sciences, I quickly realized this was the company I was looking for: nice, talented people, with a variety of knowledge to which I could bring something different. A relatively small company where people still know one another and enjoy spending time together. The whole package was just right.

With a background in CRO, Bioanalytical Laboratory, Project Management, Automation and Digitalization, and a bit of IT, I was (and maybe still am) not the typical consultant at Progress. Yet, many projects are about bringing change, and many of these involve some form of electronic system. Projects involving LIMS, LES, ELN, and Automation are the ones I am usually assigned to, but it is not limited to that. This allows for widening and deepening my knowledge, of which there is an abundance at Progress.

I have been fortunate that I have been allowed to work on some big changes within Progress itself as well. Though the typical job is to do so at a client, Progress is adjusting and improving the internal business as well. This benefits all the consultants within Progress and makes our lives a little bit easier.

Though the travelling is typically long-distance, the work is available throughout the Netherlands. This allows for searching opportunities in your own area, or enjoying listening to a book while travelling. And of course, working from home is often an option as well.

So, all in all, if you enjoy bringing change and gaining knowledge, love to meet and connect with new people, I can highly recommend sending your resume to Progress. Hopefully, we can meet in person soon during one of our face-to-face Team Meetings.
